As a nonprofit organization, the purpose of the Salt Lake Valley Police and Fire Memorial Foundation is to receive contributed funds from the public to support active employees and reserve officers of police and fire departments throughout Salt Lake County in the event of death, serious injury, critical illness or other catastrophic circumstances.

This support may include assistance in payment of higher education expenses or vocational training of children of employees killed in the line of duty. It could also include the assistance of paying the cost of training employees in new fields of employment if the employee experienced debilitating injuries or illnesses necessitating their retirement from public safety service.
